EPA Market Update (10/10/09): music at the market

Have we got a special treat for you. Two weeks ago, it was the One EPA BBQ. Last week, we had delicious EPA-grown greens from the Hartley Family Backyard Garden. And this week? It's all about the MUSIC.

We're scheduled to be joined by the relaxing yet engaging rhythms of Season of Us, a dynamic duo of musicians. They'll be infecting our market with something good. H1N1? Nope. Infectious grooves? Yes. Bring those dolla dolla billz, because we hear they'll be taking requests.

And one more thing: remember how we wrote to you last week about all that $5 can buy at the Market? We know some of you are naturally skeptical (hey, we are too), so we did a little investigating this past Saturday. Here are some highlights of what we found:

* $1.50/lb for yellow peaches at our Market; $2.99/lb at Menlo Park Safeway (picture)

* bunch of collard greens at our Market is $1.50 vs. $1.99 at Menlo Park Safeway (picture)

* $5 for 2.9lb organic strawberries at our Market vs. $3.99/lb at Menlo Park Safeway (picture)

Come see for yourself this Saturday. The affordable fun begins at 2pm, and lasts, as always, until 5pm. We expect to have a scrumptious assortment of delicious fruits and vegetables, including:

* purslane and bitter melon (the nutritional benefits are beyond description);

* juicy apples (with persimmons not too far behind!);

* organic yellow corn (the delicious kind);

* organic peppers (serrano and bell), lettuce, and cabbage (yum, yum, yum and yum);

* sweet potatoes;

* okra (come early for the best selection);

* heirloom tomatoes! (still so sweet and juicy);

* freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers and healthy snacks);

* strawberries (arrive early before they sell out);

* yummy honey (ask Transito Zamudio);

* nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and

* much more!

EBT/food stamps, WIC and Senior FMNP checks always accepted.

* EBT: the market accepts EBT/food stamps every Saturday.

* WIC: we're happy to accept WIC FMNP market coupons.

* EPA Fresh Checks: if eligible, we'll give you $5 to spend at the Market. For more information, click here.

Tenemos MUSICA.

* verdolaga;

* melocotones Indios;

* maíz orgánico;

* nuevas verduras orgánicas, incluyendo broccolini, ejotes, zanahoria (big), lechuga, chile (serrano y bell), remolacha, y repollo;

* sandia;

* pimientas;

* fresas;

* vegetales latinos y orgánicos ; y

* mucho más!
