Greens Grown in EPA

Saturday, September 26, 2009

This Saturday we are happy to feature members of the Backyard Gardener Network who will be on hand to sell vegetables grown in their backyard, right here in EPA--less than one mile from the market site. Talk about local! Super local.

We're also partnering with One East Palo Alto, who is holding their BBQ Celebration for Members. What does that mean? Delicious grilled food, right next to the market, if you become at member of One East Palo Alto. Join, and we'll give you a $5 EPA Fresh check! Also, Envision Transform Build EPA is having a Community Planning Fair inside, where they'll be raffling off Fresh Checks, too. Do some shopping, and then help plan the Ravenswood Business District.

Finally, we'll be joined by members of Network for a Healthy California. You may remember them from last year. They provided the fun cookbooks, recipe ideas, and activities for kids -- all for free!

In addition, we expect to have:

  • mustard greens, collard greens, okra, squash and tomatoes (grown here in EPA!);
  • organic veggies, including broccolini, watercress, heirloom carrots (big and purple!), and lettuce;
  • okra (come early for the best selection);
  • purslane and bitter melon (the health benefits are beyond description);
  • organic yellow corn (the delicious kind);
  • tomatoes! (they're getting juicier and juicier);
  • freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers);
  • INDIAN peaches, white peaches, nectarines, and pluots (try them!);
  • strawberries (from Salinas);
  • delicious apples;
  • yummy honey;
  • watermelon;
  • nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and
  • much more!
