EPA Market Update (9/26/09): a lively day at the Market with EPA-grown greens!

Things are busy and exciting at East Palo Alto's community space, 2415 University Avenue. This Saturday is looking to be a cooker -- literally! One East Palo Alto will be hosting their Quarterly Membership Event right next to our market, and rumor has it, they'll be grilling up a storm (for members, so think about joining). Become a member, and you'll get a $5 EPA Fresh Check.

But that's not all. Inside, Envision Transform Build EPA will be holding their second Community Planning Fair from 11am to 3pm. They, too, will have food and fun, plus a raffle drawing where you can win EPA Fresh Checks to spend at the Market. After you do some shopping, head on inside and help plan the Ravenswood Business District.

And there's more! Network for a Healthy California will be at our market, providing cookbooks, recipe ideas, activities for children, and much more--all for free! Plus, we will be joined by members of the Backyard Gardener Network, who are planning to sell delicious vegetables grown right here in EPA, including tomatoes, mustard greens, collard greens, squash and, if we're lucky, a little okra. The fun begins this Saturday at 2pm, and lasts, as always, until 5pm. We expect to have a scrumptious assortment of delicious fruits and vegetables, including:

* mustard greens, collard greens, okra, squash and tomatoes (grown here in EPA!);

* purslane and bitter melon (the nutritional benefits are beyond description);

* organic yellow corn (the delicious kind);

* organic peppers (serrano and bell), lettuce, and cabbage (yum, yum, yum and yum);

* sweet potatoes;

* okra (come early for the best selection);

* heirloom tomatoes! (oh so sweet and juicy);

* freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers and healthy snacks);

* tangy Indian peaches, sweet white peaches, multiple kinds of nectarines, plums and pluots;

* strawberries (arrive early before they sell out);

* watermelons;

* yummy honey (ask Transito Zamudio);

* nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and

* much more!

Las cosas son divertidas en el espacio de la comunidad de East Palo Alto, 2415 University Avenue. ¡Este sábado debe ser una fiesta! One East Palo Alto va a tener su Reunion Trimestral del 2009 Evento de Membresia junto a nuestro mercado, y como el rumor lo tiene, ellos estarán asando a la parrilla (para miembros, así que piensa en inscribirse).
