EPA Market Update (8/1/09): corn corn corn, and pluots!

It's really starting to look like summer around here. We've got delicious fruit, all kinds of tomatoes (even organic heirlooms) and...guess what? Corn! Organic kind, too. It has finally arrived with a great big yellow splash.

And did we mention the new varieties of plums and pluots? Transito Zamudio keeps surprising us every week with versions of fruit that we had no idea that they even existed! And he always keeps the prices so low low low.

This Saturday from 2pm to 5pm, as always, we expect to have all sorts of fresh fruits and vegetables, plus fresh-cut flowers and a bit of prepared food:

* organic corn (the delicious kind);

* organic veggies, including broccolini, watercress, heirloom carrots (big and purple!), and lettuce;

* plus, organic peppers (serrano and bell), golden beets, and cabbage (yum, yum, yum and yum);

* fresh cut flowers from Montara (pictures here);

* tomatoes! (oh so sweet and juicy);

* freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers and healthy snacks);

* sweet white peaches, multiple kinds of nectarines, plums and pluots (if you haven't tried them, check out the delicious red pluots);

* strawberries (from Salinas);

* rich and delicious summer squash (scrumptious);

* nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and

* much more!

EBT/food stamps, WIC and Senior FMNP checks always accepted.

Jam Session! TONIGHT!


You can enjoy the sweetness of summer fruit all year round by learning to make homemade jam! Come help prepare a batch, and go home with a jar of your very own jam.

What: a fun and interactive jam-making workshop!

Ya parece que estamos viviendo en el verano. Tenemos fruta deliciosa, varios tipos de tomates (incluyendo los orgánicos)...y ¿que más? Maíz. La variedad orgánica, también. Por último ha llegado con una grandísima salpicadura amarilla.

¿Y mencionamos nosotros las nuevas variedades de ciruelas y pluots? Transito Zamudio sigue a sorprendernos cada semana con versiones de fruta que nosotros no tuvimos la menor idea que ellos existieron. Y él siempre mantiene los precios tan bajo bajo bajo.

Este sábado de 2 p.m. a 5 p.m., como siempre, vamos a tener varios tipos de frutas y verduras frescas (incluyendo nuevos productos orgánicos) para su fin de semana:

* maíz orgánico;

* nuevas verduras orgánicas, incluyendo broccolini, ejotes, zanahoria (big), lechuga, chile (serrano y bell), remolacha, y repollo;

* flores frescas de Montara (fotos);

* huevos frescos y orgánicos;

* pimientas;

* tomates;

* duraznos, nectarinas, ciruelas;

* fresas;

* vegetales latinos y orgánicos ; y

* mucho más!
